India’s head coach for the Sri Lanka tour Rahul Dravid has stated that he really enjoyed the experience of coaching the national team in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. The visitors were able to win the ODI series 2-1 but lost the T20I series by 2-1.
Dravid is well known for getting the best out of the young players and there have been rumours going around that he may take up the full-time coaching role after current chief coach Ravi Shastri’s contract expires after the T20 World Cup. However, Dravid has revealed that he hasn’t given the thought to anything else and his focus was entirely on the series against Sri Lanka. In fact, the former Indian legendary batsman also admitted that coaching the national team is challenging.
In fact, earlier Dravid had admitted that it is not easy to play in a bubble because of Covid-19 pandemic.
“I have enjoyed this experience. You know, look, I have not really thought anything far ahead,” Dravid said at the virtual post-match press conference after the third and final T20 International on Thursday night.
“You know, to be honest with you I am happy doing what I am doing. For me, I haven’t given any other thought than this tour and getting through this tour,” added the legendary batsman.
“I have enjoyed the experience and I have loved working with these guys. It’s been great. And no, I haven’t given any other thought to anything else. There are (a) lot of challenges doing a full-time role, so I really don’t know,” quipped Dravid.
Meanwhile, there is no doubt that Rahul Dravid can do a fine job if he is given the coaching role of the national team but it will be interesting to note if he applies for the position. It is expected that Shastri will once again be favorite to retain his position if Dravid doesn’t put his hat in the ring.
