“Get away from cricket” – Brett Lee’s on how veteran duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can regain form ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Former Australian ace fast bowler Brett Lee reckons a break from cricket will do a lot of good to the veteran duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ahead of the all-important Border-Gavaskar series against Australia. Rohit scored 91 runs in three Test matches against the Kiwis at an average of 15.17 whereas Virat Kohli could only score 93 runs in three Test matches at an average of 15.50.

Furthermore, Rohit could only manage 42 runs in two Test matches at an average of 10.50 against Bangladesh, Kohli scored 99 runs in the same series at an average of 33. Thus, the veteran duo is under the pump for their ordinary performance in the recent past.

However, Kohli has scored 2042 runs in 25 Test matches against Australia at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries. Kohli has even better numbers while playing in Australia as he has scored 1352 runs in 13 Test matches at an impressive average of 54.08, including six centuries.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has scored 708 runs in 12 Test matches against Australia at an average of 33.71.

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Brett Lee TV, former pacer said, “When you have a couple of bad runs back-to-back, that’s when the pressure could set in. I guess the thing now is someone like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma just have to go back to the drawing board.”

“Work on that technique, freshen up, get away from cricket as much as they can and then hit the ground running when they go to Australia, because I can promise you – these Australian fast bowlers will attack Rohit Sharma with that brand new ball. I have seen him play a lot and I reckon they’ll be ready for the Aussies.”

Lee shared his surprise on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s low returns in the series against the Kiwis. The former fast bowler feels Rohit is still one of the best batters in the world.

“If you look at the Hitman and King Kohli – they got 90 runs each in the series. It’s so unlike them. They are way better players than that. It’s hard to put your fingers on why they failed. If you look at the way how Rohit Sharma got out a lot to the quicks, I can’t say there’s a technical fault there because I have seen him play for the last decade and I still believe he is one of the best in world cricket.”

“But maybe he’s a little bit too aggressive. There were a couple of shots that he will think ‘Was there a technique issue? Was he getting forward enough?’ A little bit hesitant.

The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
