Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar feels Yashasvi Jaiswal can play the same role in the T20 World Cup as Rohit Sharma played in the ODI World Cup 2023. Rohit scored 597 runs in 11 matches of the World Cup 2023 at an average of 54.27 and a blistering strike rate of 125.95. The talisman scored three fifties and one century in the ODI showpiece.
Rohit played with an aggressive approach throughout the mega event and Jaiswal also played with a similar strategy in the five-match T20I series against Australia. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 138 runs in five games at an average of 27.60 and a blistering strike rate of 168.29 against Australia.
Jaiswal is known to hit the ground running and has also impressed while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
“India can field another T20I team that can compete against other international teams and that’s basically what IPL has done. If India is looking to reinvent their approach, Yashasvi Jaiswal could be the man for India. He can do what Rohit Sharma did in the ODI World Cup 2023 for India,” said Manjrekar while speaking to Star Sports.
On the other hand, legendary Sunil Gavaskar also hailed Jaiswal’s aggressive approach and tipped him as an all-format prospect for the national team.
“The way he started off against Jofra Archer in the IPL was impressive. He is a very very good talent. Jaiswal brings the left-handedness as well in the top order. He has the freshness of not being tied down by experience. He sees the ball and hits the ball. Jaiswal is an all-format prospect for India,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
The first T20I between India and South Africa was called off due to rain at Kingsmead, Durban on Sunday. The second T20I will be played between India and South Africa at St George’s Park, Gqeberha on Tuesday.
