India has suffered a double injury blow as Deepak Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav have been ruled out for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Chahar had suffered a hamstring injury in the third T20I against West Indies and could only bowl 1.5 overs before limping off the field.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav was seen in the practice session of the team on Tuesday. But it has been reported that he suffered a hairline fracture on his hand while fielding in the final T20I against the Windies.
Deepak Chahar had scalped three wickets in three matches in the T20I series against West Indies. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav was in fine form as he had scored 104 runs in the three-match ODI series against the Windies. The right-hander scored 107 runs in three T20Is and he was awarded the Player of the Series. Thus, he would be disappointed to miss out in the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
However, Indian selectors have not named any replacements for these two players. In fact, any replacement would not have been possible due to biosecurity bubble protocols. Thus, India’s squad has been churned to 16 members.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will return to the squad and he has been named as Rohit’s deputy. Along with Bumrah, India has fast bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Harshal Patel, and Avesh Khan. Ravindra Jadeja has made a comeback into the team. India had also decided to rest Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant.
The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Lucknow on Thursday. The second and third T20I will be hosted at Dharamshala.
India’s T20I squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Avesh Khan.
