Gujarat Titans’ Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki reckons Shubman Gill can the future leader of Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Gill has impressed in all the three formats and he has been in red-hot form in the recent past.
Gill was Prithvi Shaw’s deputy when they lifted the Under-19 World Cup in 2018 in New Zealand. The youngster is considered to be the future of Indian cricket and he is also expected to serve Gujarat Titans for many years in the IPL if he doesn’t make a move to any other franchise.
The right-hander from Punjab had played a key role in Gujarat Titans’ title run in IPL 2022 as he had scored 483 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 132.22.
“Do I think that Shubman will be a leader in the future? Yes absolutely, but no decision has been made about that as yet. He has leadership qualities and is very mature who has an abundant amount of talent,” Vikram Solanki said.
“He has a very smart cricketing brain and we will continue to have conversations with Shubman and invite his opinion on every decision we make.”
Former England batter added that Gill is already part of the leadership group of the team and he was professional in his conduct in the previous edition.
“Shubman is a leader in his own right for the simple fact that he takes on a lot of responsibility. In my mind, it is not important that you play with an asterisk next to a player’s name,” Solanki added.
“Shubman adapted the leadership role last year, by his conduct, by the way he goes about, with his professional attitude towards the game.”
Shubman Gill has definitely shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he will look to deliver for Gujarat Titans in the upcoming edition. The reigning champions will begin their IPL 2023 campaign against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 31st March.
