Mumbai tour of Oman, 3rd T20: Aaqib Illyas, Jitendersingh Singh lead hosts to series win

Oman’s stand-in captain Aaqib Illyas and Jitendersingh Singh helped hosts defeat Mumbai by three wickets to win the three-match series by 2-1 at OC Turf 1 on Friday.

Oman won the toss and decided to bowl first in the final T20. Mumbai once again got off to a poor start as previous match half-centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed after scoring nine runs as he was caught and bowled by Mohammad Nadeem.

All of the Mumbai batsmen got off to starts but none of them was able to convert their score into a substantial one. Aakarshit Gomel top-scored with 34 runs whereas Sujit Naik scored 25 runs. Subsequently, Chinmay Sutar and Hardik Tamore scored 19 and 16 runs respectively but could not get going despite getting off to starts.

The lower order also failed to provide the finishing touches as Mumbai could only manage 135 runs in their 20 overs.

On the other hand, Aaqib Illyas, who was leading Oman in the absence of Zeeshan Maqsood, was the pick of the hosts’ bowlers as he scalped three wickets and conceded only 22 runs in his quota of four overs.

Meanwhile, Oman got off to a good start in their run-chase as Aaqib Illyas and Jitendersingh Singh added 51 runs in the powerplay overs. However, Mumbai got back into the contest as they picked wickets at regular intervals.

The tourists were able to pick three wickets in three overs after the first six overs before Jitendersingh Singh scored a fine knock of 46 runs as he batted at the top of his game.

Mohammad Nadeem scored 19 runs whereas Sandeep Goud scored an unbeaten knock of 20 runs to help his team get over the line.

On the other hand, Mohit Avasthi and Sujit Naik bagged a brace but their efforts went in vain as Oman won the decider. The first ODI will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
