Indian Super League outfit SC East Bengal have managed to rope in Amarjit Singh Kiyam on loan from FC Goa for the upcoming season. The Red and Golds have once again entered the transfer market very late and hence they are looking to sign players on loan from other teams.
Amarjit joined FC Goa last season from Jamshedpur FC but has not managed to find his feet in Goa. Therefore he has joined SC East Bengal in search of regular minutes. It seems like head coach Juan Ferrando prefers Edu Bedia and Glan Martins in the double pivot position and hence Amarjit thought out moving out on loan.
The former India U-17 skipper joined the Gaurs in the January transfer window last season and was also a part of their historic ACL campaign. He featured in four of the six group stage matches in the continental tournament.
He impressed everyone with his performances for India at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017. He continued his exceptional form for the Indian Arrows in I-League before Jamshedpur FC snapped him up in 2019. He made his ISL debut in the 2019-20 season for the Men of Steel and then went on to feature for the Indian national team. He made his debut against Curacao in the Kings’ Cup and also started in India’s win over Thailand.
However a double arm fracture derailed his career as he missed out on the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Amarjit was back in action during the ISL season but he was not at his best. Hence Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle preferred the likes of Aitor Monroy, Alex Lima and Mobashir Rahman over the 20-year-old. He only featured in seven matches that too from the bench. Therefore he decided to move to FC Goa.
There was not much difference even in the FC Goa setup as Ferrando picked others over him. Here also he was down in the pecking order.
But a move away from the Gaurs may help him realise his potential. He can be one of the stalwarts in midfield for the Red and Golds in the upcoming ISL season.
