Legendary Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal for his sensational knock on the second day of the opening Test against Australia at Perth. After Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, the left-hander was able to turn a corner in the second dig.
Jaiswal completed the slowest fifty of his young career as he took his time. At the draw of stumps on the second day, Jaiswal was batting unbeaten on 90 runs after adding an opening alliance of 172 runs with KL Rahul, who scored a crucial knock of 62 runs.
The southpaw scored seven fours and two maximums in his impressive knock. The youngster’s knock has played a key role in putting India in front.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal has the cricketing world at his feet. He is hungry for runs and that’s exactly what Indian cricket needs. A left-hander, who at the top of the order can create problem for the bowlers. He brings a completely different perspective. He loves to play his shots, and isn’t an ultra watchful batter. He will play his shots,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Gavaskar noted that Jaiswal is hungry for big scores and he is not satiated after scoring a century. Jaiswal has already scored two double-centuries in his young Test career of 15 matches.
“This boy is special. Where he has come from, the way he has been batting, the way he has been handling things. Against England, he scored more than 700 runs in 5 Tests with 2 double hundreds earlier in the year. He looks so hungry for runs, which is what you want. We as batters used to say, I want a hundred. He says, let me get a 150 or a 200,” said Gavaskar.
India ended the second day’s play at 172, with a healthy lead of 218 runs.
