Indian Super League side Chennaiyin FC has completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Lukas Brambilla for the upcoming 2024-25 season. He comes in with significant international experience, having been at the highest level in the top club in Cyprus, Othellos Athienou.
This signing is Chennaiyin FC’s ninth of the season and the fourth international player added to their squad, following Elsinho Dias, Chima Chukwu, and Wilmar Jordan Gil. Brambilla has committed to a one-year contract, promising to bring depth and creativity to the team’s lineup.
Head coach Owen Coyle was thrilled to have Brambilla amongst the ranks. Coyle said, “Lukas Brambilla is a fantastic addition to our squad. He’s an exciting player who will enhance the skills of our young Indian players. He can take on defenders, score, create goals, and deliver set plays. His arrival, along with our other Brazilian players, brings great joy to the club. Working with players like Rafa and now Brambilla, who are wonderfully entertaining and skilled, is truly exciting for us.”
It wasn’t lost on Coyle that it was not a simple signing to get across either. He said, “We had to beat a lot of other clubs for his signature. He was highly sought after in Europe following an outstanding season in Cyprus. We’re looking forward to helping Lukas shine and continue his development as a player.”
Being 29 years old, Lukas Brambilla has plied his trade in many countries, making his mark wherever he goes. He has played 134 games, scoring 22 goals and assisting another 24 during his senior career in club football. His vision and skills will be of great value addition to Chennaiyin FC.
Speaking exclusively to the club’s website, Brambilla said, “I am thrilled and honored to join this great club. The expectations are high, and I can’t wait to put on the Chennaiyin FC shirt and give my best on the field.”
With the new season ahead of them, this will further boost the midfield for Chennaiyin FC and bring new dynamism to their play. Fans and teammates have watched him practice by now; they cannot wait to get out there and see how his creativity and experience will help drive the team to ISL success.
