ATK Mohun Bagan continued their dominant run in the ongoing seventh edition of the Hero Indian Super League as they defeated FC Goa by 1-0 in the 30th match of the tournament at Fatorda Stadium on Wednesday. The club’s talisman Roy Krishna got the penalty in the 85th minute and then converted the same.
The team’s head coach Antonio Lopez Habas was satisfied with the performance of his team. Lopez stated that his players played according to the match plan and they came up with a complete performance against FC Goa.
“The players had a fantastic performance against FC Goa. Tactically the team were very good and they played according to the match plan,” Habas said after leading ATK Mohun Bagan to their fourth win in six games this season.
On the other hand, Habas heaped praise on the team’s talisman Roy Krishna. Krishna scored his fifth goal of the season as he has played at the top of his game. Habas added Krishna is one of the best players in the league.
“Roy is a fantastic player for us. For me, he is the best in the Hero ISL. Now he has to stay fit,” Habas said.
Meanwhile, FC Goa’s head coach Juan Ferrando stated that his players need to create more space in the final third to bag their chances. Ferrando added that it is important to manage the workload of their players as Brandon Fernandes and Jorge Ortiz were rested.
“Brandon missed the last training due to illness. We could not start with him because he was not fit and hopefully for the next match on Saturday, he will be ready. We did not start with Ortiz because we need to protect the players as we will be back on Saturday to play Chennaiyin. On Saturday we need to protect another player because in three days we have another game. Because the players need some time to rest,” he said.
ATK Mohun Bagan are now at the second place in the points table. ATK will next lock horns with Bengaluru FC at the same venue of Fatorda Stadium on 21st December.
