Bengaluru FC head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli gave credit to his team’s spirit after they defeated Jamshedpur FC by 3-1 at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim in the 82nd match of the ongoing Indian Super League 2021-22 season on Saturday.
In fact, the Blues were put on the backfoot by Jamshedpur FC as the latter scored in the opening minute of the game as Chukwu found the back of the net. However, Bengaluru FC bounced back in style as Sunil Chhetri equalized in the 55th minute. Furthermore, Cleiton Silva scored a brace as he scored in the 62nd and 90th minute.
Marco Pezzaiuoli was not happy after his team conceded the goal in the first minute of the game.
Pezzaiuoli said in the post-match presentation, “No, I don’t think so. Because when you get a goal after one minute of game time, then you’re not doing your best. We played with high spirit and we had good set-pieces moments in the game. That’s why we won the game today. It was a well-fought game, both teams had chances to score. We won the game because of great team spirit”.
Speaking on Sunil Chhetri’s performance, who scored his 49th goal of the Hero ISL, Pezzaiuoli added, “It was a good game for him today. The first strike is always a good moment when you score. Not only did Sunil score today, but he also made a good game for the team even Cleiton Silva had a good game today and it’s important for strikers. But for me important is that the team played well”.
Pezzaiuoli added that they will look to take one game at a time to reach the semifinal stages. Bengaluru FC is currently in third place after six wins from 15 matches in the standings.
Bengaluru FC gaffer concluded, “Now our focus is on the next game. We said a long time ago that we want to be in the top four. But now we are focusing on game to game, next week we have a very tough game against Hyderabad FC and they are in good flow as well. Let’s see how we prepare and recover”.
Bengaluru FC will next face Hyderabad FC at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim on Friday.
