Indian Super League outfit Mohun Bagan Super Giant announced the signing of Albanian forward Armando Sadiku for the upcoming season. The club announced the signing on Sunday on their social media handles.
Sadiku joins the Mariners on a two-year deal as he previously represented La Liga 2 outfit FC Cartagena. The Albanian had also netted eight goals in 31 appearances for the Segunda outfit. Sadiku has represented several clubs in Spain, Switzerland and Albania. He also had a stint with Poland’s Legia Warszawa.
Sadiku highlighted how there is plenty of talk of Indian football in Spain which helped him make a decision. He was impressed by the club’s legacy and wanted to play a role in their success. “Mohun Bagan have a huge legacy in Indian football and I’m looking forward to play for them and play a role in their success. There is good awareness about Indian football in Spain these days. I let the Mohun Bagan SG management team know within a week of their offer that I was willing to come to India,” he said after signing on the dotted lines.
The 32-year-old has had stints with Switzerland’s FC Zurich and Poland Legia Warszawa, which also saw him feature in the UEFA Europa League and also in the UEFA Champions League Qualifying Stage respectively. These stints helped him grow as a player as he scored his first goal at the Europa League during his time at Legia.
Sadiku has been exceptional for Albania as he scored the crucial header against Romania in the Euro 2016 to earn their first-ever victory in an International event. Overall, he has slammed home 12 goals over 38 appearances for his country.
The veteran forward brings in a lot of experience to MBSG’s ranks as he has represented teams at the highest level in Europe. He will look to use that experience to good effect for the upcoming Indian football season.
