It is well known that the healthy competition brings the best out of players. Practising is a different thing but facing tough match situations against top quality players, lays down the foundation of a successful career for most players. The players who are able to get the best out of themselves in the crunch situations have a good chance of having successful career.
There is no doubt that Greece’s young Tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas is the one player to watch out for. Tsitsipas has shown the skills to go a long way in his career. The Greek player recently won his maiden ATP Masters title as defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev by 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the Monte Carlo event.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas faced a tough challenge from Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final of the 2021 Australian Open. Tsitsipas had defeated Spain’s Rafael Nadal in the quarter-final despite being two sets down and there were huge expectations from the Greek. However, he was thrashed in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 by Medvedev.
Tsitsipas admitted that he wasn’t ready for the match and Medvedev was too good for him. The 22-year old player feels his level will improve if he keeps playing against a top player like Medvedev.
Reflecting on the same, Tsitsipas said, “That day I was not ready, I was not able to go out and stand against him… My game has to be built up so that I can face players of this level.”
“To build up my game so that it’s more complete… I know that Medvedev will be an opponent that I will definitely come up against in important grand slam matches.”
He said, “When I go toe-to-toe with a player like Daniil, who has such a complete game, my own level goes up as well.”
Meanwhile, Medvedev has had his wood on Tsitsipas as he has won on six occasions whereas the latter has won a solitary match. Thus, Tsitsipas will aim to improve his record against the Russian.
